Art Aspen 2010
August 5-8, 2010
Charlie James Gallery is proud to present six outstanding contemporary artists for the inaugural Art Aspen fair from August 5th – 8th, 2010 at the Aspen Ice Garden in Aspen, Colorado.
Steve Lambert is a leading member of a contemporary class of digital artists and is reknowned for his internationally famous media interventions like the New York Times Special Edition, and for his object-making practice which we will feature in Aspen. Steve was a Senior Fellow @ the Eyebeam Center for Art and Technology for several years and will now join the faculty of the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, MA.
William Powhida is the best-known outsider artist making art about the insider NY art scene that may have ever existed. His New Museum drawing shook the foundations of the NY art world and his Art Basel Miami Beach Hooverville drawing further cemented his reputation as the art world’s modern day Daumier. We have all the newest Powhida editions at the fair this year.
Lizabeth Eva Rossof is very well known (in Aspen very much so too) for her public interventions (like when she went hitchhiking around the country from elite private airfields) and her biting conceptual work, such as the series she did when she described members of the Bush cabinet to police composite artists, or when she sent illicit political images to offshore Chinese painting companies for detailed fabrication. We will feature Lizabeth’s Terra Cotta Warriors series, and her Braille candy prints.
Libby Black has been distilling the essence of the allure of high-end luxury goods and high fashion imagery for nearly a decade, through her beautiful drawings and paintings to her exquisite, hand made sculptures of luxury objects.
Orly Cogan is one of the premier embroidery artists working in the United States today. She takes vintage embroidered domestic objects like tablecloths and doilies and adds her own very personal, very contemporary images to them, with fantastic results.
Walter Robinson is the best political sculptor in San Francisco today. His work unites the best parts of finish fetish, humor, content, and challenge. We will feature work from Robinson’s Transport Series in Aspen this year.
