William Powhida, Why Art Isn’t So Cool (Anymore), Watercolor, acrylic, graphite on paper mounted on aluminum, 55 x 45 inches, 2016

Congratulations to William Powhida on the acquisition of “Why Art Isn’t So Cool (anymore)” by the Crocker Art Museum in Sacramento, CA.

The piece, produced in 2016, remains a searing assessment of the artist’s conflicted feelings about their role in the art world and the art world’s uncomfortable connections to wealth, capitalism, and inequality.

Thanks to the entire Crocker team for supporting work of blistering candor, humor and honesty.
