Lucia Hierro's "De Todo Un Poco" Acquired by the Guggenheim Museum - New York

Lucia Hierro, De Todo Un Poco, Polyester Organdy, Felt, and Digital Print on Brushed Suede and Brushed Nylon, 67 x 60 inches, 2017-2021

Congratulations to Lucia Hierro on the acquisition of her Mercado Bag piece De Todo un Poco by the Guggenheim Museum in New York, NY. This piece was originally exhibited at Elizabeth Dee, NY and Casa Quien in the Dominican Republic. The gallery wishes to thank Pablo Leon de la Barra and Geaninne Guimaraes for their generous support of Lucia and her work.

De Todo un Poco is an early collaboration between Lucia and her mother. The piece / bag contains a wide array of soft sculptures marking territory of personal and broader Dominican cultural significance. Lucia views the piece as a time capsule of sorts, capturing local Dominican elements like the La Marina restaurant and nightclub, which played the music of La Gran Manzana, Lucia’s father’s band. The piece also marks broader Dominican cultural territory with soft sculptures like the Juan Marichal  baseball card, the Country Club soda - a Dominican favorite, as well as Washington Heights details such as the lottery games and the basketball shoe sculpture.

The gallery will be exhibiting a solo presentation of Lucia’s work at this year's Armory Show in Booth S7 from September 8th-11th in New York City.

Opening December 8th 2022, Lucia will have a solo show at Fabienne Levy Gallery in Lausanne, Switzerland.
