EXPO Chicago 2022
Charlie James Gallery is extremely proud to present works by John Ahearn and Rigoberto Torres for the 2022 edition of EXPO CHICAGO. The gallery is exhibiting in Booth 151 of the Profile section of the fair from April 7th thru the 10th at Navy Pier, Chicago. We will present nine gestural pieces from Ahearn and Torres cast over a nearly thirty year expanse of time, with the earliest piece dating from 1993 and the most recent piece from 2021. Gestural in this case applies not to the manner of paint application in the works but to the poses of expressive movement used in depicting these subjects. The subjects in this exhibition range from an array of artists admired by Ahearn and Torres to neighborhood folks who happened by their casting sessions in New York to autobiographical pieces from Rigoberto Torres. This is the gallery’s second exhibition of works by Ahearn and Torres, the first being The Bronx Comes to LA in early 2021 at our main gallery in Los Angeles. We are delighted to bring these essential, groundbreaking artists to Chicago. John Ahearn and Rigoberto Torres will be the subjects of an exhibition at the Bronx Museum in the Fall of 2022. John Ahearn is represented by Alexander and Bonin in New York and Charlie James Gallery in Los Angeles.
